Grade R is a huge adjustment to any child. There are so many important skills they need to master to be ready for Grade 1. There is a lot you can do in just 5-10 minutes a day to help your child through play to prepare for Grade R and give him/her a great start when going to “big school”. This package has been compiled to help the parents to prepare their child for Grade R. We all want our child’s first year in the “big school” to be a good experience. This package consists of skills that a child should master in Grade R and if they can start learning these in a “play” manner, it will make their adjustment to the requirements of Grade R much easier. Please remember that none of these activities must feel like work to the child. Do not pressure your child to do the activities or try to be your child’s teacher. The purpose of these activities is to get your child ready for Grade R in a fun way and at the same time create a learning enriched environment for your child so that he/she can master these skills with confidence and guarantee a successful Grade R. I have tried as much as possible to make activities for most of the skills required for Grade R, but there are always requirements/skills that differ from school to school and even from different parts of South Africa.
